Dynamic electricity tariffs

Heat your home in the cheapest hours

On a dynamic tariff the price of electricity changes through the day. A heat store lets you make heat when power is cheap and use it when it is expensive.

How dynamic tariffs work

Prices follow the wholesale electricity market and change hour by hour. They are often lowest at night, around midday on sunny days, and when wind output is high.

Next-day prices are usually published the afternoon before, so a controller can plan when to charge.

Without storage, your heating has to run whenever the house needs heat. With storage, heat can be made in the cheap hours.

FAQ

Questions about tariffs

What is a dynamic electricity tariff?

A tariff where the price changes through the day, often hour by hour, following the wholesale market. Prices for the next day are usually known in advance.

Does Batbubble work without a dynamic tariff?

Yes. It is designed to store surplus solar on any tariff. A dynamic or time-of-use tariff adds the option of charging in cheap hours.

Is price-based charging available now?

Not yet. It is a planned capability that depends on the final control platform and completed product development.
