Store energy as heat. Use it when your home needs it.
Your home produces energy when it is available. Batbubble keeps it until you need it.
Batbubble is a thermal battery for homes with solar panels or a heat pump: a large, insulated hot-water store that charges when electricity is free or cheap and heats your home when you need it.
What to do with solar you can't use
Solar panels produce most of their power at midday. Your home needs most of its heat in the evening and at night, often when electricity costs more.
Surplus solar is usually exported for a payment below what you pay to buy electricity back. Storing it as heat keeps that energy in your home.
Electricity is not always cheap when your home needs heat. Batbubble is designed to fix that mismatch.
A thermal battery for your heating and hot water
Batbubble is a water-based thermal energy storage system. It collects heat and releases it when your home needs it. Instead of storing electricity in lithium batteries, it stores energy as heat in water.
It is more than a better-insulated hot water tank. It is designed to manage when and how your home produces heat.
Domestic hot water
Hot water for showers, bathrooms and everyday household use.

Home heating
Heat for compatible water-based systems, including underfloor heating and radiators.
One thermal storage system. Two essential home needs.
How Batbubble charges and gives back heat
It charges from solar power, a compatible heat pump and cheaper grid hours, stores the heat in an insulated tank, and supplies your heating and hot water later.
Where Batbubble makes a difference
Works with your heat pump
The heat pump charges first because it is the most efficient heat source. Electric heaters add heat from surplus solar.

Frequently asked questions
What is a thermal battery?
A thermal battery is a large, insulated store of hot water (or another material) that is charged with electricity or a heat pump and releases the heat later. Batbubble is a water-based thermal battery for home heating and hot water.
How is it different from a home battery?
A home battery stores electricity and can power anything in your home. Batbubble stores heat, so it can only be used for heating and hot water. Compare the two.
Can I use my excess solar for heating?
Yes, if the heat can be stored until you need it. Batbubble is designed to turn surplus solar electricity into stored heat. See your options.
Does it work with my heat pump?
Batbubble is being developed to work with compatible heat pumps and water-based heating such as radiators or underfloor heating. Compatibility depends on your installation.
How much energy does a 1,000-litre tank hold?
It depends on how far the water temperature can swing between full and empty. Try the storage calculator.
Does it work with dynamic electricity tariffs?
Charging in the cheapest hours is part of the planned energy management, subject to the final control system.
What does it cost?
The planned unit prices are €4,500 for 1,000 L and €6,000 for 2,000 L. Installation and other costs are not yet confirmed.
